Officers reported they were contacted by a man who discovered a car in Hanau marked with red-colored substance

Roughly 50 vehicles have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.

Automobiles, exterior walls and mailboxes were vandalized, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they stated in a official communication.

Officers say they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued liquid.

The substance had been applied in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they reported.

Officers then found multiple other smeared cars and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.

Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.

Officials report initial examinations indicate the fluid was most likely human blood.

"There is still no clue as to where it came from; authorities are not yet cognizant of any injuries in association with the occurrence," they added.

City officials stated they were trying "to resolve the case" and have requested to the public for information.

A senior official said the incident rendered him speechless and required to be addressed promptly.

"This event hits the core of Hanau and revives the trauma of the extremist violent incident half a decade ago," he posted on social media, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a gunman aiming at people of foreign heritage in 2020.
